The kitchen table is the new office. People are working from home and trying to create boundaries between their professional and personal lives. But the impending question arises, how do you stay focused while working remotely?
In this situation, how can you create a happy and healthy home-work environment? We invited Ali Green, CEO and Founding Director of Pantera Press to join us on this inaugural episode of the CFO Weekly podcast.
She started working from home 12 years ago, literally sitting at her parents' kitchen table every day. "In an office, you would never sit down and work uninterrupted for eight to 10 hours," Ali said.
In fact, for many people, office time spent on non-work activities probably exceeds actual work time.
So set realistic expectations for yourself. In this working remotely from home video, Ali shares 10 rules that helped her succeed in a work-from-home setting.
It starts with Rule number one:
-
Rule #1 — Decide your office hours in advance and stick to them.
-
Rule #2 — Separate work from sanctuary. (Or … why you'll never be able to eat a meal in peace at that table again.)
-
Rule #3 — Use your commute time wisely. How you spend the minutes between when you wake up and when you start work forms your mindset for the rest of the day.
