What can you do with 240 computers and ₹500K ($6K)? If you're part of the Personiv Coimbatore team – thanks in large part to the generosity of one of our partners, Thryv – you can make a difference for 15,000 low-income students by creating safe, technologically-sound computer labs for the schools and orphanages that need them.

More: Giving Back During A Pandemic: Why Our Commitment Still Stands

In a time when it's all too easy for the most vulnerable among us to slip through the cracks, Personiv Coimbatore's Rotaract Club, in conjunction with the Rotary Club of Coimbatore and partnership with Thryv were able to provide this much-needed safety net. Beginning in late July and wrapping in September, the team in Coimbatore tended to one of our core pillars – A Focus On Giving Back – by donating 240 computers and $6K worth of furniture and software to six area public schools and four charitable homes just as students begin to trickle back into classrooms all across India.

Volunteers from Personiv Coimbatore's recently established Rotaract club coordinated, oversaw and completed the installation of the machines, all of which were generously donated by our long-time partner, Thryv. Like organizations all over the world, we had to make a shift to remote work in early 2020 by outfitting our workforce with work from home friendly equipment like laptops. The quick and efficient transition over just a few days left hundreds of vacant desktop workspaces to languish at the office.

Rather than allow these resources to go to waste or become redundant, the computers will help level the playing field for students that cannot otherwise afford the technology. Five thousand students per year will be able to access study material and online libraries, discover programming languages and experience coding tools for the next five years, Fredericks John– EVP & Site Head of Personiv Coimbatore, told us.

John, who founded the Rotaract Club at Personiv's South India location in Coimbatore, explains how this project in particular advances our edict to give back. "Going digital is the way forward," he said. "This opportunity to learn computer science will help create 15,000 digitally literate students in our community and prepare them for fulfilling careers. We want to make sure that underserved students can learn the technology and develop their knowledge on par with their more affluent peers in private institutions."

Over the next five years, this commitment to giving back to the communities where we work and live will persist – Personiv's Coimbatore team has promised to provide on-site support for the students and machines should that need arise. This will ensure that the computers, like the students they're intended for, will see their full potential. The highly qualified and technically trained local Personiv employees are a perfect fit to teach and mentor the up-and-coming students.

That's part of what makes John so "Personiv Proud" of the project, he said. "This project embodies the very core of one of our pillars – "A Focus on Giving Back". This is what we mean when we talk about the importance of "Being Human". We were able to share these high-configuration Dell computers with bright young students in need, giving them access to the real-world technology we use in our everyday work. More than that, these computers represent an opportunity well-suited to the enormous potential just waiting to be tapped within these students. I feel extremely lucky to have been a part of it."
